Windows Registry Root Keys – most important keys in Windows Registry

HKEY_USERS – contains individual data for each user separately and Each user is represented in the form of SID sub-key located above main branches. Within this root key are The next subkey:

- Default – Contains information used to win to show the desktop before that any user login to the computer.

- SID – In this subkey SID represents the security identifier for the console user and contains per-user settings and adjustment to the desktop, tune in control panel …

- SID_Classes – In this subkey SID is a security identifier for console user and contains per-user class registration and association files. Windows combines the contents of HKLM \ Software \ Classes and HKU \ SID_Classes key in HKCR.

In addition to these subkey, there are three more in the HKU, namely: S-1-5-18, S-1-5-19, S-1-5-20

KEY_CURRENT_CONFIG – Represents character data to the configuration of the current hardware profile, HKLM \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Hardware Profiles \ Curent and vice versa .
